Rev. Steven Wilco
- Amherst, MA
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Amherst, MA
What brings you joy in your ministry?
I have a particular passion for preaching and for planning and leading liturgy. I also particularly enjoy leading and participating in education with youth and adults.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
Young people who engage tough questions about God and the world.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I enjoy reading, running, hiking, cooking, and trying new things.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
A buffet dinner at a revolving restaurant in Montreal during a family vacation.
I grew up in Northern Virginia and went from there to Valparaiso University in Indiana for a degree in Classical Languages. I went to the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. My seminary field work included Loyola Hospital in Maywood, IL, Atonement Lutheran Church in Philadelphia, PA, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Dublin, OH. I am now serving in my first call in Amherst, MA.
Did you always want to be clergy?
My pastor in confirmation suggested I think about being a pastor. After some initial resistance, and with his encouragement and a lot of prayer, I began to see that as a possibility.
