- San Jose, CA
I am the pastor of Christ the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in San Jose, CA
What brings you joy in your ministry?
I'm a serious fan of people. I literally could not imagine or identify God without other people.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
What are your interests outside of ministry?
Anything I can make with my hands - jewelry making, building, painting, farming, weaving, carving - I like making something useful with my hands in my leisure time. I figure that this is how I'm going to be useful in the zombie apocalypse.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
Thanksgiving 2004. It was my year with Urban Servant Corps. 10 of us living communally and tbh it wasn't going very well. But that day we woke up and got the donated turkey in the oven, played football at the park together, had a lazy afternoon, and cooked a meal together. When the food was ready I remember someone putting on Bob Marley, lighting some candles, and then we had a loving meal of gratitude. It all went back to being messed up later that night. But for a moment on that day the kin-dom of God broke through.

Did you always want to be clergy?
I once heard Parker Palmer talk about the process of finding his vocation. It said that the process was like a series of closing doors. I remember the moment about one year before I graduated seminary when the last possible door closed and all I was left with was "pastor". It was then and is still now dumbfounding.
