Ministry setting

Chicago Theological Seminary

What brings you joy in your ministry?

Seeing the light come back into the eyes of those I minister. Feeling God in community.

Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?

Queers who have to remain closeted for their own safety. Single mothers who are incarcerated. Single dads who have to raise kids on their own. Grandparents who don't get visits while they're in the nursing home. Teenagers who care too much and don't know how to articulate them. People of color who experience passive aggressive racism daily.

What are your interests outside of ministry?

Sexual violence prevention, cooking new recipes with my partner, trans-identity development, mental health destigmatization, dogs, talking with my grandma.

Best meal you've ever eaten?

Oven-baked Neopolitan-style Margherita pizza from Punch Pizza in Minnesota with a glass of red wine.

Brief bio

KT grew up in St. Paul, MN and is now living in Chicago with their partner Elena attending Chicago Theological Seminary. KT is passionate about LGBTQIA justice, trans* issues, incarceration reform, and dogs.

Did you always want to be clergy?

For the longest time, I wanted to be an English teacher. It wasn't until college that I decided that education wasn't the profession for me for a variety of reasons. In a rather "accidental" conversation with a woman who was also a member of my family's church, the light came on in my head that maybe I should be pursuing ministry, not education. The rest is history.
