- Rockville, MD
Seminarian at Gettysburg, heading into internship at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Washington, D.C.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
Creativity, passion, discussion, learning, and being present. I also love a good Sabbath.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
Almost all of the faculty and staff at Gettysburg have been incredibly supportive and affirming, challenging me when I need a gentle nudge and comforting when I've pushed myself too far.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I enjoy watching movies, hiking, being near water (but not necessarily in ours). I also really love art and it has acted as a wonderful outlet for me.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
I love brunch, and my dad makes a mean omelette with French toast.
Grew up in Unity, MD (it's a real place, I promise. Right down the street from Sunshine, MD.) Went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA where I majored in Religious Studies and Early Childhood Ed. Went into Americorps after graduation, moving across country to very northern CA and served in a mentoring and tutoring program. Moved back home to MD where I taught Pre-K for 10 yrs, along with a few years as a youth and family minister mixed in.
Did you always want to be clergy?
Oh goodness, no. My dad is an LCMS minister and so I saw what all is involved behind the scenes with ministry beyond Sunday morning. When I started to feel called in my late twenties, my dad told me to fight it as long as I could, and eventually I just got tired of fighting. I identify a great deal with Jonah.
