Rev. Jill Rode
- St. Paul, MN
Serving as pastor of St Anthony Park Lutheran in St Paul, MN.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
Preaching (though not preaching prep), surprising people with the power of the Gospel, and being let into people's lives which are both rich and complex.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
I am inspired by those who speak up for those in our society whose voices have been silenced. I look up to persons in ministry who take their call as public leaders seriously and are not afraid to name those places where our world is broken, while at the same time reminding us that even in the darkest of situations, the hope of Christ shines.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I love both playing and watching sports, hiking, fishing, kicking my wife's butt at board games, and eating as much ice cream as my belly will hold.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
Nothing beats a freshly prepared dish for $1 on the streets of Thailand.
I was born in S. Korea and adopted as an infant. While I lived in Minnesota briefly upon adoption, the main part of my growing up took place in Tucson, AZ where I also attended the University of Arizona ("Bear Down!") studying Elementary Education. I then had the unbelievable opportunity to teach English in Thailand for nearly five years before returning to earn a Master's Degree in Education at Arizona State University with a concentration in English as a Second Language. During this time, I worked on staff at Arizona State University's Lutheran Campus Ministry; one factor in a list of many that ultimately led me to seminary. Nowadays, I love hanging out with my wife and fellow Proclaim member, Gretchen Rode, and our super sweet dog, Petunia.
