What brings you joy in your ministry?
Joy comes in the transformation of people participating in activities that bring them out of their comfort zone: having bilingual conversations with our partners in El Salvador, making difficult decisions about how to create the best housing for homeless youth, serving communion in worship for the very first time. I love walking with people on their faith journey and jumping out of our comfort zones together.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
I am grateful for the LGBT leaders and allies who came before me who created a trail and made my call possible today. It is an honor to be counted among you who waited, and fought, and prayed for so long.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I love exploring new and unusual sites. My travel is close to home these days, as I explore different neighborhoods with my wife and our one year old son, Luke. My favorite adventures are trying out a new children's book store, watching my son experience a wading pool for the first time, or seeing his eyes light up at the train store. If I don't fall asleep immediately in the evening, I love to read travel memoirs about places we'll someday take him around the world.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
I love Frank's Red Hot Cayenne Pepper Sauce. Most people put it on buffalo wings. I put it on salad, on pasta, on any kind of meat...pretty much everything other than ice cream!
