Rev. Allyn Itterly
- Pittsburgh, PA
I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC with a degree in Christian Education, then received my MDiv from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. I am currently in my second call at a small congregation in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
Watching people use their gifts in celebration and service.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
The children, my Homebound members, and people who struggle quietly or work behind the scenes. In all of these I see a joyful, strong, or selfless faith that encourages me in my life and faith.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I love to read, do crafts, and spend time with my girls. Cyndi and I like to garden, work on our home, spend time with our cats and assist her aging parents. We love to travel with the Finger Lakes of NY, the Outer Banks, and Savannah our current favorites.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
A meal at Belhurst Castle, Geneva, NY because it was my first wine pairing meal. I learned a lot, tried new things and was amazed at how wine and food can change the taste of one another.
I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania at the base of the Pocono Mountains. I have two younger brothers, one living & one deceased. I have three daughters; Alyssa who is married and working, Aubrey who has graduated from Kent State, and Bethany who is 21 and exploring colleges while working. In August 2014 I married my partner, Cyndi after coming out to our congregation.
Did you always want to be clergy?
I thought I would marry a pastor, because when I was young women were just starting to get ordained. My pastor, however, saw something in me and encouraged my faith and love of the church. I worked 5 summers as a Chaplain in Pocono Area Leisure Ministry discerning my call.
