Rev. Paul Gibson
- St Petersburg, FL
Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg, FL.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
Teaching: getting people to articulate their beliefs and claim their unique experience of the divine. Proclaiming good news to people who just can't believe it's true.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
The Revd. John Turner, the Scotsman who led the Anglican/Episcopal church in Berlin, Germany, when I first moved there, an openly gay man who led a vibrant, welcoming congregation and gave me new ideas about what was possible in ministry.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
All kinds of music, voracious reading , watching movies.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
Probably a hot dog and a beer at a minor league baseball game.
I'm not just a "cradle Lutheran;" I was conceived Lutheran! My dad was a Lutheran pastor and my Mom is the daughter of a Lutheran pastor, descended from a long line of Lutheran pastors. I am an ex-opera singer and an ex-Benedictine monk (would I make that up?) who resisted any suggestion of a call to congregational ministry for a long, long time.
