- Nashville, TN
Currently, I'm serving as Pastoral Intern at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nashville, TN. After this year, I'll head back to Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary for the final year of my M.Div.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
I love being a different face of Christianity to people who've been hurt by the Church. A friend of mine once said that she spent a good 80% of her time talking with folks about what she doesn't believe, and I'm finding that's true, too!
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
There are too many to name. Right now, I'd have to say the poet Nayyirah Waheed, who speaks the words my soul longs to say.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I love to color. I currently have a revolving tower of BIC markers and Sharpies sitting on the corner of my desk. I also love weaving and knitting. My favorite genre of literature is Young Adult Fiction, though I'm starting to really enjoy poetry, as well. I cook and enjoy walking around the neighborhood in the autumn evenings.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
This is a tough question, as I enjoy cooking and eating! I would have to say a dinner that included a home cooked pot roast, home made mac and cheese, garlic snap green beans, Sister Schubert rolls, and a peach crumble for dessert.
So, where are you from? That's not always the easiest question to answer. I was born in Chicago; grew up in Greensboro, NC; went to college in Cullowhee, NC; lived and managed a cafe in Sylva, NC; attended seminary in Columbia, SC; and am currently on internship in Nashville, TN. Out of all those places, I'd call Sylva home.
Did you always want to be clergy?
I've always known I was going to be a teacher. At age seven, I wanted to be a dolphin trainer. By 13, that had shifted to working with people with disabilities. It wasn't until college that I really considered a call to public ministry!
