Vicar at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church- 3rd year student at Trinity Lutheran Seminary
What brings you joy in your ministry?
As a young person in ministry I find joy through talking with my friends about my future call. Many of my friends are not active in a church but when we are able to have conversations about what I am doing in the ministry world it fills me with joy. I also find joy in hearing stories about those who have been hurt and denied by the church finding their way back into a church that is affirming of who they are as a child of God.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
All of the LGBTQ+ pastors and church leaders who have come before me inspire me in this journey. Also, my grandma is a huge piece of inspiration and support for my seminary career.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
I am an avid fan of the U.S. Women's national soccer team, National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), and the Columbus Crew (Men's Soccer League). I also enjoy cycling and camping. Spending times with friends and family is always a great plus as well.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
The best meal I have ever eaten was in Jacmel, Haiti. We sat with a small community in Jacmel and we were served a whole fish fresh from the ocean with a side of plantains. I met some of the most inspiring folks during that meal and not to mention the fish was the best I have ever had!
I was born and raised in Sidney, OH (not Australia although that would be cool!) In May 2015 I received my Bachelor in Social Work degree from the University of Toledo. I began my seminary career in June 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, OH.
Did you always want to be clergy?
No! Being a pastor sounded like the worst job ever to me when I was younger. While I was on a mission trip in high school my youth director mentioned to me that I would make a great pastor. I laughed at that comment... and here I am at seminary today. I tried to avoid attending seminary as much as I could, I really didn't want to be a pastor! During college I realized that maybe the comment made by my youth director wasn't so laughable and that being a pastor was my call. I desperately tried to convince myself to be a Social Worker instead but God had another plan. Moral of the story-- don't laugh at God!
