Rev. David Eck
- Fairview, NC
Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, a small RIC congregation, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I also work as a Chaplain PRN at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
What brings you joy in your ministry?
Leading God's people in worship, Bible study and service in the community.
Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?
Brian McLaren, Phyllis Tickle, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Rob Bell are my theological favorites. I'm also a huge fan of film and find the holy in the strangest of places. I'm especially fond of George Romero whose zombie films are prophetic social commentaries. I also love Alfred Hitchcock and James Whale.
What are your interests outside of ministry?
Everything zombie. Most people don't know I write a horror blog that reviews films from the Silent Era through the 1980's. I'm also a songwriter and liturgy writer.
Best meal you've ever eaten?
I dined at a Brazilian Steak House in Miami, FL. Brilliant.
I grew up in Pittsburgh PA, received my Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh and my MDiv at Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg.
Did you always want to be clergy?
That's a long story. Suffice it to say I wanted to be a chemist but God had other plans!
