Ministry setting

So, in backwards order... I graduated from Vanderbilt Divinity School (MDiv) and am currently completing a MA in Lutheran Studies at Luther Seminary. Summer 2018 will bring CPE and Fall on to internship in Nashville. TBD.

What brings you joy in your ministry?

When I see a young person connect the dots - when it finally sinks in that they are loved and belong, oh how I light up! In my line of work it can be a slow climb up that mountain, and the journey can be rough, but watching the joy on their face when they reach that place is what brings me life.

Who inspires you in ministry or seminary?

Howard Thurman is my favorite theologian and Thomas Merton runs a close second. No justice, no joy in for fore; No dreaming no Divinity in the latter.

What are your interests outside of ministry?

I love to get my hands dirty in the garden. I also love to cook big dinners and have lots of people over to share it with.

Best meal you've ever eaten?

Thin crust, brick oven pizza with fresh picked herbs, handmade mozzarella and homegrown Roma tomatoes.

Brief bio

People often ask me if it was cool growing up on an island. I suppose, until you factor in a 40 minute bus ride to the mainland for school. First on, last off. Let that sink in (when you're a kid and really just want to play). But, yes, the beach was cool! And still where I return to "realign." Nashville is my physical home, the water is my spiritual home.

Did you always want to be clergy?

I always knew inside. Over half my family is LGBTQiA+ and I grew up Catholic, so it took a while for me to formalize ordination. I suppose you could say God allowed me to do ministry my way until it became clear it was "time."
