Entrance Essay
The Entrance Essay is an autobiographical reflection which should include the insights gained during the process of discernment which led to your decision to apply for candidacy with the Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries. You are asked to provide an honest assessment of your current self understanding, with the expectation that your discernment process is continuing.
The essay should be about 2500 words, and may be submitted on paper or electronically.
The essay should include the following:
A discussion of the events, circumstances, and persons in your life that have affected your faith and your sense of call. If your sense of call is not clear at this point, please describe how others may have encouraged you to explore theological study and/or the possibility of a church vocation.
A description of your family of origin and how that shaped who you are.
A description of your current life situation.
Reflections on your personal journey of faith and relationship to the Lutheran tradition, including your current church involvement.
Reflections on your understanding of the particular ministry to which you feel called (pastor, diaconal minister, associate in ministry, deaconess) and your assessment of your strengths and weaknesses, gifts, convictions, and concerns related to this ministry.
Reflections on your decision to apply for candidacy with the Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries.
